About Xoloitzquintlis (sho-lo)
Our store is named in honor of Xoloitzquintlis (pronouned 'sholo'), the oldest dog in the Americas. Archeological evidence suggests they accompanied the first humans to cross the Bering Strait more than 3,000 years ago, then lived in the jungles of Mexico, where they were prized by ancient cultures.
Xolos were beloved by Aztec royalty who considered them protectors in both life and death who ward off evil spirits. They were also known to have healing qualities and provided warmth on cool nights.
Today, the tradition of man's best friend continues in the Americas with a huge variety of breeds. And it all began with Xolo.
